Hailed by TIME Magazine as “America’s Missionary of the Vine,” Karen MacNeil is also the creator and Chairman Emeritus of the Rudd Center for Professional Wine Studies at The Culinary Institute of America in the Napa Valley. Karen will host two wine tasting receptions – one each evening prior to dinner. Guests will have an opportunity to visit with Karen and ask her questions as she guides guests through each session. Guests will also receive a pre-signed copy of The Wine Bible.
This Inside Access from Chase Napa Harvest weekend, including two nights at Silverado Resort and Spa, will kick off on Friday evening at a newly opened vineyard in St. Helena. The evening will begin with a private hors d’oeuvres reception and wine tasting session with Karen MacNeil. Blackbird Vineyards President and Partner, Paul Leary will then host a specially-curated harvest inspired dinner paired with award-winning Blackbird Vineyards wines.
On Saturday and Sunday, the Inside Access from Chase harvest experience continues at Schweiger Vineyards, a boutique family owned-and-operated vineyard and winery. Guests will be assigned either Saturday or Sunday to be hosted by winegrower, Fred Schweiger, in small groups for this rare hands-on opportunity to pick and stomp their own grapes! Since 1981, the Schweiger Family has been farming their private Spring Mountain Estate, located 2,000 ft. above the small town of St. Helena. Wine production began in 1994, and they now produce approximately 5,000 cases of award-winning wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Dedication®.
Fred will take guests in teams into the vineyard for an informative conversation, and then guests will pick grapes, measure “brix” (sugar), and learn about the nuances of making fine wine. Then, guests will stomp grapes with their bare feet, just as wine was traditionally made in the past! The grape stomp will be followed by a tasting from barrels aging in the wine cellar and a casual lunch on the terrace overlooking the vineyard. Lunch will include a selection of Schweiger favorites as well as library vintages.
On Saturday evening Karen MacNeil will return to host an elegant private reception and dinner at the renowned Auberge du Soleil. The "Inn of the Sun” offers a fine dining experience from one of the best vantage points in the valley.
The evening will begin with a sunset reception on the private dining terrace where guests will enjoy wine and canapés while taking in the spectacular view, followed by a four-course dinner paired with wines selected by Karen. Celebrating over a decade of Michelin Stars, Executive Chef Robert Curry will create a custom menu for the evening and will be available to meet guests and take photos during a dessert reception on the terrace.
During this harvest weekend, while not busy with Inside Access from Chase activities, guests are invited to make their own schedule including discounted spa services and/or a round of golf at Silverado Resort and Spa paid for by the cardmember.
